Packages and pricing

See what each plan includes, manage the packages that can be bought, and set plan prices.

  3. The package list
  4. Pricing

Two pages deal with what TutorCat sells: Packages (shown as Packages & pricing) and Pricing. During the beta nothing is sold: every family gets Family features free through the beta switch, and payments are off. You may still prepare packages and prices ahead of a paid launch.

Packages & pricing

Packages & pricing: the tier cards, the Publish pricing card and the package list
  1. 1: Payments off in the beta
  2. 2: What Free includes
  3. 3: Family, read-only
  4. 4: Not available yet
  5. 5: Add a package

The tier cards

The top row shows the Free and Family tiers (and Classroom once it has a price or a package).

  • The rows list what each tier includes. They are read-only: what a tier includes is built into the server and cannot be changed here.
  • Consent & safety is marked Included · locked. Protective features are on every plan and can never be removed or sold.
  • The pill on the Family card shows the payments state. During the beta it reads Beta · via invite, and the page header shows Payments off.
  • Monthly and Yearly show the current prices from the Pricing page, or US$ — when none is set.
  • Save draft (reason required) and Publish are greyed out. They are not available yet; set prices on the Pricing page.

The package list

A package is something that can be bought: a name, a tier, a price, a billing interval and whether it is shown on the public price list. A package points at a tier; it never changes what the tier includes.

To create one:

  1. Select New package.
  2. Fill in Name, choose the Tier (Family or Classroom) and the Interval (Monthly or Yearly).
  3. Type the Currency as three letters, for example USD.
  4. Type Price, minor units: the amount in the currency's smallest unit. 999 is $9.99. The hint underneath shows how it reads, for example Reads as $9.99.
  5. Tick or untick Shown on the public price list.
  6. Add a Description if you like, and the Reason (required, recorded in the audit log).
  7. Select Create package.
    The New package form
    1. 1: Family or Classroom
    2. 2: 999 means $9.99
    3. 3: Public or hidden
    4. 4: Reason for the log
    5. 5: Create it

The server refuses a Free-tier package: free is the absence of a checkout, not a zero price.

Each active package has Edit and Archive. Archiving stops offering the package and hides it from the public price list. Its payment history is kept. Archiving is permanent: to bring it back, create a new package.

The audit log records create_package, update_package and archive_package.

Pricing

Pricing holds what each plan costs, and every price ever set. Changing a price never changes what a plan includes, and existing subscribers keep the price they signed up at.

The Pricing page: plan cards, the Set a price form and the history
  1. 1: Current price per plan
  2. 2: Pick the plan
  3. 3: Amount in minor units
  4. 4: Blank means now
  5. 5: Reason for the log
  6. 6: Save the price
  7. 7: Every price ever set

To set a price:

  1. Choose the Plan (Family or Classroom) and the Interval.
  2. Type the Currency and the Amount, minor units (999 is $9.99).
  3. Optionally pick Effective from. Blank means immediately.
  4. Write the Reason (required, recorded in the audit log).
  5. Select Set price. A line confirms, for example Saved: family at $9.99 per month.

The plan cards at the top show the current price for each interval, with the date it took effect. No price set means the public price list has nothing to show for that plan.

History lists every price, newest first, with when it takes effect, when it was set and by whom. Use Load older for more.

The audit log records update_pricing.
