About TutorCat
Phones, tablets and computers
During the beta TutorCat runs in a web browser on any device; desktop and mobile apps built from the same app are on the way.
TutorCat is one app that fits whatever screen your family uses. There is nothing to install during the beta.
In your browser, today
Open tutorcat.ai in any modern browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and sign in. Everything in this guide works there: the Learning Studio, photos, voice, read-aloud, the parent pages and every setting.
The layout adapts to the screen:
- On a computer, the sidebar lists every section, and the Learning Studio shows your Chats beside the conversation.
- On a tablet, the sidebar shrinks to icons, and on narrower screens the chats open in a drawer.
- On a phone, tabs along the bottom take a student to Home, Learn and Explore, and a parent to Home and Settings. In the studio, the menu button at the top opens the chats.
- 1: One step at a time
- 2: Snap the page
Device features TutorCat uses
- Camera: the photo button lets a student take a picture of their homework, or pick one they already have. The browser asks for permission the first time.
- Microphone: where voice is turned on, the browser asks for permission the first time a student records. Recordings are turned into text and never kept.
- Read aloud: tutor replies are read using your device's own built-in voice.
Apps for desktop and mobile
The same TutorCat app is being packaged as desktop apps for macOS and Windows, and as mobile apps for Android and iPhone. They will look and work the same as the web version, and use the same account. Until they are ready for beta families, please use TutorCat in your browser.
Light, dark and calmer motion
Every screen comes in a light and a dark theme. Out of the box, TutorCat follows your device's own light or dark setting. Students can choose Light, Dark or Follow system in Settings → Appearance, where Reduce motion also turns off celebrations and floating animations. These choices are saved on the device they are set on, and the theme also applies to anyone else who uses TutorCat in that browser.
