Parents
Family, consent and a second parent
Manage each child in Settings, add another child, link a second parent, and withdraw your consent if you need to.
Everything you can change about a child lives in Settings, under Children and consent. Nothing here is behind a paywall: consent, screen time, export and deletion are free on every plan.
Find your way around Settings
- Choose Settings in the sidebar (or at the bottom of your phone screen).
- One child's card is open on the left. It shows their name, grade, curriculum, the date you linked, and Consent active.
- Inside it, in order: Screen time, Consent, and Delete [name]'s data.
- Your other children appear as smaller cards on the right, with their limit, quiet hours and mode. Choose Manage to open one.
- Below them are Add another child and the Weekly digest for the open child.
- 1: Consent active
- 2: Open another child
- 3: Add another child
- 4: Weekly digest
Add another child
When another of your children signs up and adds you, you'll get a new consent email. Follow its link, as in Getting started. Or paste the code here:
- In Add another child, choose Paste code.
- Paste the code from the email.
- Tick I have read the children's privacy notice and I agree to it.
- Choose Link.
- 1: Paste the code
- 2: Tick to agree
- 3: Link
Linking a second parent
Both parents (or guardians) can be linked to the same child. They count equally: there is no main parent.
- Your child adds the other parent. In their own Settings, under Your parents, they choose Add another parent, enter the parent's email and relationship, and choose Send request.
- The other parent confirms separately, from their own email and their own parent account. You can't confirm for them, and they can't confirm for you.
- You'll be told. When another adult gives consent for your child, you get an email: Consent for [name] on TutorCat. If you didn't expect it, sign in and check.
- Both of you see the same things: sessions, wellbeing, screen time, gaps, skills and safety alerts.
- Some settings are shared, some are yours. The screen-time limit belongs to the child, so either parent can change it. The weekly digest day is your own.
See who has consent
Open the child's card in Settings. The Consent section lists every parent who has given consent for this child: their email, "(you)" next to yours, their relationship, and Active or the date it was revoked.
- 1: Every parent's consent
- 2: Withdraw your consent
- 3: Download Sam's data
From here you can also choose Export [name]'s data. See Downloading your child's data.
Withdraw your consent
You can withdraw your consent for a child at any time. You only ever withdraw your own consent, never another parent's.
- Open the child's card in Settings.
- Under Consent, read the line above the buttons. It tells you exactly what will happen in your situation.
- Choose Withdraw consent….
- Read the confirmation, then choose Withdraw consent, or Keep it on to change your mind.
- 1: Confirm withdrawal
- 2: Changed your mind?
What changes
If another parent is still linked, you'll see Remove your access to [name]? Only your access ends. The other parent stays linked, and your child keeps using TutorCat.
If you're the only parent who gave consent, you'll see Pause TutorCat for [name]? What happens next depends on your child's age:
- Below the consent age in their country: your child sees a screen saying consent was withdrawn and can't start sessions until a parent consents again. Their portfolio, streak and points are kept.
- At or above the consent age: your child can keep using TutorCat on their own. You just stop seeing their activity.
In every case:
- Nothing is deleted. Withdrawing is not the same as deleting.
- You stop seeing the child's activity straight away, and the weekly digest stops for that child.
- There's no undo button. To link again, your child sends you a new request.
- You can still delete their data. The child stays on your home page and in Settings as Consent withdrawn, with only the delete option. See Deleting your child's data.
